Vazante Iara Freiberg

On the Casa de Cultura do Parque’s façade, new flags by Iara Freiberg (São Paulo, 1977)—part of the Dando Bandeira project—explore contrasts between fullness and emptiness, light and darkness, transparency and opacity. The Argentine-Brazilian artist investigates the relationships between body, architecture, and space. Spaces of circulation, emptiness, and abandonment recur in her work and are tensioned through interventions involving drawing, painting, photography, and installation. In Vazante, Freiberg questions whether what we see is presence or absence.
