Description, horaires...
Casa de Cultura do Parque presents, from October 3, 2026 to April 25, 2027, the exhibition “O tudo e o todo”, by André Vargas, curated by Claudio Cretti, the institution’s artistic director.
As part of this edition of Dando Bandeira, a project that invites artists to occupy the Casa’s façade with works in the form of flags, André Vargas (Rio de Janeiro, 1986) presents “O tudo e o todo”. Vargas is a visual artist, poet, composer and educator. He draws on his ancestry as a way of understanding the foundations of the linguistic, religious, historical and aesthetic cultures that shape Brazilian identity, with popular culture serving as a key reference.
On the façade, eight flags distributed across four poles, displayed on both sides, form the words “TUDO” and “TODO” using ceremonial elements associated with orixás, while the colors of the fabric echo the chromatic palette of these deities. The work synthesizes tensions between totality and limitation, presence and absence, inscribing these words in space as both linguistic and ritual signs. By connecting faith, language and symbolic power, the work offers a meditation on infinity and nothingness while confronting structures that oppress Afro-diasporic identities.
Also on the opening day, at 4 p.m., André Vargas will present the performance “Minha cabeça é meu guia”. Dressed in white and with a shaved head, the artist wraps his own skull in an extensive beaded necklace representing an orixá or devotional entity. By covering and subsequently undoing this gesture, he establishes a cyclical narrative, spiraling through time.
