During a state visit, gifts are traditionally exchanged. But what is actually given? The Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum - Kulturen der Welt presents in its special exhibition "geschenkt! - The Gift of Diplomacy" presents about 30 never before shown state gifts from about 15 non-European countries such as Togo, Mexico and Indonesia. The artistic carvings, elaborate ceramic works and replicas of well-known originals are presented as interventions in the permanent exhibition. What stories do these objects tell us about the country of origin, the donors, the recipients and diplomacy in general?
